How to use the Haakaa Breast Pump

The haakaa breast pumps are quickly becoming the most essential baby product on the market today.  There are no cord, no small pieces and there is no noise when in use.  This makes the Haakaa Breast pump not only the most affordable breast pump on the market but also the easiest to use and clean.  Find out why below.

How does the Haakaa Breast Pump Work?

This is a question I get often.   Most people think that the Haakaa Breast pump is designed to be used as a milk collector whilst you are breastfeeding on the other side.  Yes, this is an excellent example of how the haakaa breast pump can help you.  But it is designed just like every other breast pump as just.  A breast pump to collect expressed milk.

The genius design of this silicone pump works off suction rather than the pulling motion that manual and electric pumps do to trigger a letdown.   You simply position that pump over your nipple and squeeze the base to allow it grab hold of your breast.  Then all you have to do is sit and wait.

Like all breast pumps you will have to play around with the device to find out what position works best for you.  Watch the video demonstration below to see how the pump works.

Where can you purchase a haakaa breast pump?

You can purchase your haakaa breast pump here

Available in two sizes - 100ml and 150ml

How to use whilst feeding your baby/toddler

  1. Place the breast pump directly over your breast so that your nipple is comfortably sitting inside the flange.
  2. When comfortable squeeze the base to create a suction
  3. Sit back and relax.
  4. If after a couple of minutes you have not started collecting the milk, release the suction by squeezing and reposition.

Note:  You need to be relaxed and comfortable to help stimulate your milk.  Try not to sit in an awkward position to watch the pump.

How to use as a Manual Express Pump

For best results follow the following suggestions prior to pumping.

  • Have a nice warm shower
  • Place a warm heat over your breast
  • Massage the breast

  1. Place the breast pump directly over your breast so that your nipple is comfortably sitting in the flange.
  2. When comfortable squeeze the base a couple of times to try and stimulate your milk and make a suction.
  3. Sit back and relax.
  4. If after a couple of minutes, you have not started collecting the milk, release the suction by squeezing and reposition.

Note:  There should be no need to constantly pump.  The weight of the pump plus suction often does the trick.  Sometimes having photos or videos of your baby can help to bring on your milk.

Tip - Make sure that you drink heaps of water and eat regularly to help maintain a good milk flow.

Expressing

Hello! Thank you for The video. Helped explain. I’m confused as to what breast pump to buy and this looks like a good fit. Can you use this pump everyday to express if baby isn’t latching?

This pump can be used as a manual express pump as well as just a milk collection during breastfeeding. The amount you receive really is dependant on so many factors the same as any other electric breast pump. I always recommend that you try using the pump with a breastfeeding baby first so you can have an understanding of which position the pump works best for you and how it works for your body shape. If you are going to use it as a manual pump - I would recommend a warm (not hot) washer first to help stimulate a letdown. Then have either your baby nearby or look at photos/videos of your bub. All these tips help with any manual or electric breast pump. Mums all over to world are catching on to the haakaa breast pump for its effortless way of collecting milk - anywhere and anytime.
